Lumen tells you how much light a bar sends out in total, and lux tells you how much light reaches a point on the road. To compare how far bars reach, look at the distance where the light still gives 1 lux.
What is lumen?
Lumen is the total amount of light the bar sends out. A higher figure means more light overall, but it says nothing about where the light goes. Two bars with the same lumen can light the road very differently.
What is lux?
Lux is the amount of light that lands on a surface at a given distance. It shows how bright the road actually is where you need to see.
Why does the 1 lux distance matter?
The 1 lux distance shows how far ahead the light is still strong enough to see by. Twilight 300W reaches 1 lux at 794 m. It is the most useful single figure when you compare reach.
Rated or measured lumen?
Rated lumen is the theoretical value of the LEDs, and measured lumen is what the finished light gives. Many brands only publish the rated value. We publish the measured value too, so you can compare like for like.
Spot or driving beam?
A spot beam gathers the light far ahead, and a driving beam spreads more light to the sides. Choose spot for long straight roads and driving for winding roads and wildlife along the verge.
