|---|---|
| Best low beam | Luxtar Premium Canbus |

How we tested
We fitted the bulbs in our own cars and compared them with halogen, both against a wall and on dark country roads. We looked at how much light each bulb gives, how even the beam is and how sharp the cut-off is in the low beam. We also checked whether the car shows a bulb warning, how the bulb handles heat and whether it fits behind the headlight.
Best low beam 2026
In the low beam the beam pattern matters most. You want to see more of the road and the verge, but the light has to stay below the sharp cut-off so oncoming traffic is not dazzled. That is why the brightest bulb does not win here, the one with the best beam does.
Winner: Luxtar Premium Canbus
Premium Canbus gives three to four times the light of halogen, with an even beam and a clear cut-off in the low beam. Built-in CAN bus means most cars show no bulb warning.
Pros: even beam, built-in CAN bus, sealed to IP68, good for everyday driving.
Cons: shorter reach than Hero, but reach is not what decides the low beam.
Specs: 3,400 lumen at 52 W, 6000 K, 12 and 24 V, IP68. Available for H4, H7, H9/H11, HB3 and HB4.
Budget pick: Luxtar Onyx
Onyx gives a clear step up from halogen at a low price and draws only 17 W. It suits cars that do not monitor bulb current.
Pros: low price, low power draw, compact.
Cons: no CAN bus, some cars need a resistor to avoid a bulb warning.
Specs: 17 W measured, 9 to 18 V, IP67. Available for H1, H3, H7, 880 and 881.
Best high beam 2026
In the high beam, reach matters most. When the road is clear you want to see as far ahead as possible, so you have time to react to wildlife and obstacles.
Winner: Luxtar Hero
Hero is our most powerful LED bulb, with up to six times the light of halogen and the longest reach in the test. Built-in CAN bus means most cars show no bulb warning, and the bulb works on both 12 and 24 volt.
Pros: most light, longest reach, built-in CAN bus, 12 and 24 V.
Cons: the fan makes the bulb longer than halogen, so check the space behind the headlight.
Specs: 58 W, 6000 K, 12 and 24 V, IP67. Length 74 mm, 31 mm from the base, fan 36 mm. Weight 30 g. 2-year warranty. Available for H1, H4, H7, H9 and HB3.
